The days of the Airbus A380 seem numbered: Air France does not want to bring the six giant planes in service back into the air after the Corona crisis. “The exit fits in with the Group's strategy to simplify the fleet in order to become more competitive,” it said in a press release. The aim is to replace the resulting gap with newer aircraft such as the A350 and Boeing 787.

The A380 major customer Emirates (115 jets in service, nine more on order) is also discussing the same. Airline boss Tim Clark told the newspaper “The National” that “the days of the A380 are over”. The magazine “Arabian Business” reports that only 20 of the giant planes are to remain in service. The machines have been on the ground since the end of March.

Airbus intends to stop production of the A380 in the coming year due to the lack of new orders.
