Air France retires A380

The days of the Airbus A380 seem to be numbered: Air France does not want to put the six giant aircraft in service back into the air after the Corona crisis. "The exit fits in with the group's strategy to simplify the fleet in order to become more competitive," it says in a statement. The aim is to replace the resulting gap with newer aircraft such as the A350 and Boeing 787.

Emirates, a major A380 customer (115 jets in service, nine more ordered), is discussing similar issues. Airline boss Tim Clark told the newspaper "The National" that "the time of the A380 is over". The magazine "Arabian Business" reports that only 20 of the giant aircraft will remain in service. The planes have been grounded since the end of March.

Airbus intends to stop production of the A380 in the coming year due to the lack of new orders.
