The state-owned airline Air Malta is currently offering unusual special fares for a special group of people. Since Maltese electoral law does not recognize postal votes from abroad, citizens who live outside the island republic must travel separately.
Around March 26, 2022, when the Maltese population is called to go to the ballot box, expats can fly home for 90 euros (return) to cast their vote. According to its own statements, the carrier is reacting with these fixed prices to the recent sharp rise in prices around the election date.
According to Maltese law, it is also possible to vote early on March 19, 2022. The special rate mentioned in the previous paragraph is also offered for this date. This is only accessible to people who are entered in the electoral register and can only be booked by telephone via the carrier's service center.
