Air Moldova has to file for bankruptcy protection

On May 2, 2023, the airline Air Moldova had to file for bankruptcy protection proceedings under the law of the Republic of Moldova. Flight operations are still suspended indefinitely.

Air Moldova has been experiencing financial problems for a long time. A few years ago, the carrier's planes were even seized. However, the new owners were then able to resolve the discrepancies. Most recently, the civil aviation authority of the Republic of Moldova alleges that documents proving the carrier's financial capacity were not submitted despite repeated requests.

The quarrel culminated in the fact that Air Moldova was temporarily no longer allowed to fly. The Civil Aviation Authority is of the opinion that there are currently significant shortcomings in the area of finances and that these have not been eliminated to date, despite repeated deadlines. The submission of documents would also have been refused or at least not taken place.

Now the management had to go to the bankruptcy judge. A creditor protection procedure was applied for and it was further requested that this be carried out in the form of an urgent procedure. It is hoped that bankruptcy and thus liquidation can be averted. Air Moldova is still confident that flight operations can be reactivated at some point.
