Air Tanzania is taking over the last Dash 8-400 built for the time being

The last DHC Dash 8-400 built, at least for the time being, goes to Air Tanzania. The turboprop aircraft has the serial number 4624 and has been waiting for an operator to take over in Goose Bay since April 2021.

Earlier this year de Havilland Aircraft of Canada announced that it would temporarily stop production of the Dash 8-400. This type of machine was manufactured at the Toronto location until the end. In the absence of new orders, final assembly is currently on hold. Can it ever be reactivated? That is completely unclear and will primarily depend on whether airlines order additional Dash 8-400s. De Havilland has some plans to modernize the pattern, but these are not yet ready to be decided.

Incidentally, the Toronto plant is still owned by Bombardier. In the course of taking over the Dash program, a leasing contract including staff was agreed for it. It is also unclear whether de Havilland will use the capacities in Toronto again in the future.

In any case, Air Tanzania will - at least for the time being - operate the last DHC Dash 8-400 under the registration 5H-TCK. The carrier's fleet consists of two Airbus A220-300s, two Boeing 787-8s, two DHC Dash 8-300s and now five DHC Dash 8-400s.
