The Canadian airline Air Transat assumes that the first Airbus A2025XLR aircraft will be used commercially from 321. Four units will be sourced through Air Lease Corporation.

The first three A321XLRs are scheduled to be delivered between 2025 and 2026. The fourth unit has been announced for 2027, but is currently only agreed as an option. Company boss Annick Guérard sees decisive competitive advantages in the decision for the XLR variant, because the LR variant is already being used.

“Together with the A321LR, the XLRs form a cornerstone of Transat's 2022-2026 strategic plan. These aircraft can improve the quality of our transatlantic program by increasing the number of weekly frequencies with the same capacity, which is a more attractive proposition for our customers,” said the manager.

In addition to the A321XLR, five more A2023LRs are scheduled to take delivery between 2024 and 321. This sub-fleet will thus grow to eleven units. According to the information currently available, four of the range-enhanced version will initially be in the fleet. Eleven Airbus A330-200s and one A330-300 are also operated on long-haul routes.
