A low-cost airline is currently being set up in Iran under the brand name Air1. It is the first company based in this state that explicitly wants to start as a low-cost company.

Not much is known about the start-up yet. However, they want to forego GDS fees and agency commissions, and charge for extras like seat reservations, inflight food and beverages, and carriage of checked baggage. The usual LCC business model.

Due to the sanctions against Iran, Air1 will find it very difficult or even impossible to get factory-new aircraft. Therefore, you have to use the used market. Machines have always found their way into the isolated country via more or less well-known detours. Although the planned aircraft type has not yet been commented on, the website shows Boeing 737-400s in various places. This could be an indication that one plans to fly with these medium-haul jets.

The company is based in the capital of Iran, Tehran. Air1 has not yet commented on the planned routes. It only says that point-to-point services will be offered. The necessary application for the AOC and operating license has so far been made. However, nothing is known about the current status of the processing.
