Thousands of people will lose their jobs at the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus. Will there possibly be even more due to the recent sharp drop in demand due to the lockdowns? "No," says CEO Guillaume Faury to the German newspaper Bild.
The manager also explains that he assumes that the downsizing of around 5.000 full-time jobs, which has been publicly known for several weeks, is sufficient. However, Faury also added that it is sufficient from today's perspective. The government's short-time working programs and other subsidies would make a positive contribution to maintaining as many jobs as possible. In the meantime there was even talk of the elimination of 15.000 full-time positions, but the number should be off the table. "There are significantly fewer," said Guillaume Faury.
When asked when the airlines will again achieve the transport performance of 2019, the Airbus boss told the Bild newspaper: "Between 2023 and 2025", although he is of the opinion that it will be very fast on the short and medium-haul routes, however, the long haul will have to suffer a little longer from the aftermath of the pandemic.
