The crisis has already resulted in too many layoffs. The European aircraft manufacturer Airbus does not want to cut any further jobs in Wales.

Instead, the working hours of the entire workforce are to be reduced by ten percent for a whole year. This is currently being voted on at the Broughton site, so simpleflying.com. This measure was negotiated by the responsible employee representative, Unite. Because this would save hundreds of jobs. “The devastating coronavirus crisis has already cost us almost 1.000 high-quality jobs. We cannot afford to lose more, ”said Peter Hughes, Unite Wales Regional Secretary. The effects are of course noticeable, but of minor nature: the employees only lose 6,6 percent of their salaries every month. And that's still better than being rid of the job altogether, especially since the cut is limited to one year.
