The corona pandemic is also giving the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus deep red numbers. In the second quarter of 2020, it posted a loss of around 1,4 billion euros, the company announced on Thursday. The production of the Airbus A350 is now being throttled.

Airbus has been hard hit by the crisis, as many airlines want to take over aircraft that have been ordered later or not at all. As a result, the group will have to adjust production rates and cut around 15.000 employees worldwide. The first half of 2020 was deep red, but company boss Faury does not want to make a forecast for the full year 2020, referring to the completely unclear situation due to Corona.

The bestseller Airbus A320neo should not suffer any further production cuts. Around 40 machines are currently being manufactured per week. In the long-haul segment, fewer A350s and A330neos will be produced every month. This is justified with the currently low demand in this segment. The Canadian plant will again assemble four A220s per month. Airbus did not provide any specific information about the production of this type in the USA and only mentioned that the factory was opened in May 2020.
