Many Austrians want to stroll on the beach again this year or just get out again after all the lockdowns and restrictions. The Vienna Chamber of Labor advises against long-term bookings and recommends spontaneous bookings. The reason for this is that many countries still have travel warnings that could lead to the loss of any insurance cover, for example.
The AK Vienna gives people who are interested in vacationing abroad the following advice to make vacationing easier:
- Travel warnings in place: Due to the corona pandemic, travel warnings still apply to almost all countries in the world. Find out more about the situation on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.
- Short-term bookings: Refrain from long-term bookings. Nobody knows how the situation will develop.
- Travel warning - nothing with free cancellation: If you book now and a travel warning is still valid for your holiday destination at the start of your journey, a free cancellation is not possible. Then there are no unforeseeable circumstances.
- Tour operator cancellation - no cancellation fee due: If the tour operator cancels the trip, no cancellation fee is due. There is money back. You do not have to accept a voucher or a change in booking. This also applies to pure flight bookings if the airline cancels the flight.
- Agree on cancellation: It would be ideal if you could agree in writing with the contractual partner on a cancellation option free of charge up to the start of the journey. If this is not possible, inquire about the amount of the cancellation fee before booking.
- Cancellation insurance - yes or no: Attention, many cancellation insurance policies have a pandemic or epidemic exclusion clause.
- Do not pay too much: Do not pay more than necessary. The tour operator may generally request a maximum of 20 percent of the travel price as a deposit. The remaining payment is due at the earliest 20 days before the start of the journey and only upon delivery of the travel documents.
