A smartphone caught fire on Alaska Airlines flight AS751 from New Orleans to Seattle on August 23, 2021. According to the airline, the incident should have occurred immediately after landing.
The Boeing 737-900ER with the registration N479AS was therefore on its way to the gate. According to official information, a passenger's smartphone was said to have overheated and started to burn. The crew stepped in immediately and operated the fire extinguishers. The “problem device” was then stowed in the so-called “Battery Containment Bag”.
The crew decided to evacuate the medium-haul jet. This means that the travelers exited the machine via the evacuation slides. There were 129 passengers and six crew members on board. As a precautionary measure, two people were admitted to a nearby hospital.
