An era at Alaska Airlines ended on January 9, 2023, because the carrier removed the last Airbus A320ceo from scheduled service. Some time ago it was decided that this type of machine would no longer be used.

Originally, the aim was to phase out the A320ceo fleet, which mainly comes from Virgin America, which was acquired in 2018. It was later decided that the process should be accelerated and the last unit should be shut down by the end of 2022. Then it got a few days longer, because until January 9, 2023, 12 copies were still in use.

The 29 Airbus A320-200s that once served Alaska Airlines are currently stored at various airports, awaiting new operators. The turboprop aircraft of the subsidiary Horizon Air and the ten Airbus A321neo that were ordered by Virgin America are also to leave the fleet. The current schedule is for these aircraft to be divested by the end of 2023. In the future, Alaska Airlines plans to operate predominantly Boeing 737 (Max) aircraft on its AOC. Horizon Air will focus on Embraer 175.
