Alaska Airlines will phase out the 29 remaining Airbus A320-200s in the fourth quarter. This significantly accelerates the process communicated some time ago. Chief Financial Officer Shane Tackett made the announcement during the company's recent earnings call.

Alaska Air Group also plans to phase out the 32 de Havilland Dash 8-400s operated by Horizon Air during the first quarter of 2023. Those ten Airbus A321neos operated by Alaska Air are scheduled to leave the fleet by the end of 2023. The A320 series machines were added in 2008 through the acquisition of Virgin America. Without exception, these are leased aircraft.

In the long term, they want to focus on two model series in the short- and medium-haul segment: The regional subsidiary Horizon Air is to fly Embraer 175s and Alaska Airlines is to focus on Boeing 737s.
