Alitalia can no longer pay out wage arrears

The financial situation of the Italian airline Alitalia continues to worsen. The company is no longer able to pay employees' salaries. On May 27, 2021, the employees only received half of their salaries. The same was already available at the end of April 2021, but the remainder could be paid for at the beginning of May 2021.

This time the situation is different, because according to the appointed government commissioner, Gabriele Fava, there is no longer enough money to be able to transfer the second part of the May salaries. The unions are now calling on the government to step in and thus secure the livelihoods of the employees. It is still unclear whether the government will provide further funding for Alitalia.

The successor company Ita should actually have been up in the air long ago, but a disagreement with the EU Commission has been dragging on for a long time. A rapprochement has recently been achieved, but the insolvent Alitalia is once again running out of money. This is now at the expense of the employees, because for May 2021 they only received 50 percent of their wages.
