The airline is not getting out of the problems. The negotiations between the Italian government and the European Commission about a “new” Alitalia seem to have stalled.
The main obstacle in the talks between Rome and Brussels is the EU's demand that the new ITA company give up a significant number of slots at Milan's Linate airport. Alitalia held more than 50 percent of the slots in Linate before the crisis. ITA has so far refused to accept a larger reduction.
Reports indicate that the current roadmap cannot be met, so a new strategy is needed. Otherwise the airline could not be kept alive for business, reports fvw.de. "We believe that a new action plan is necessary to allow the company to continue operating," said Italy's Industry Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti, without saying what the plan might look like.
