The security staff warning strike organized by Verdi hit Hamburg Airport particularly hard. The security checks for departing passengers can no longer be carried out. As a result, all 87 planned departures have to be cancelled.

The Verdi union called on security personnel at various German airports to go on a day-long walkout on Tuesday. The background is that collective bargaining has stalled.

Hamburg is currently particularly badly affected: “All checkpoints are affected, both the security check, which all passengers have to pass before departure, as well as the personnel and goods checks. Due to this Verdi strike, the security check for passengers will be closed all day today, so there will be no departures for passengers. Arrivals are still possible. At this point in time (as of Tuesday, March 15, 2022, 8:15 a.m.), all 87 departures that were scheduled for Hamburg today have been cancelled. For arrivals, 18 out of 89 planned landings have been canceled, and more cancellations may be added later today," the airport said in a statement to the media.
