In May 2022, exactly 1.940.373 passengers flew via Zurich Airport.

That corresponds to a quadrupling compared to the same period last year, according to the airport in a broadcast. Compared to May 2019, the number of passengers in the reporting month is -29 percent. However, if you compare the figures with the time before the crisis, it becomes clear that the airport is still suffering from a passenger slump. In May 2022, almost 30 percent fewer passengers traveled through the largest Swiss airport than in May 2019, before the corona pandemic broke out.

The number of local passengers in May 2022 was 1.420.943. The proportion of transfer passengers was 26 percent. The number of flight movements rose by 152 percent to 20.237 take-offs or landings compared to the same month last year. The monthly comparison shows that flight movements are 83 percent of the 2019 level. At 120 passengers, the average number of passengers per flight was 30 percent higher than in the previous year. Seat occupancy increased by 20 percentage points to 74 percent in the month under review compared to the same month last year.

Freight, which was already strong during the crisis, increased by 6 percent to a good 35.500 tons in May. Compared to May 2019, the airport still handled 7 percent less cargo.
