Singapore Airlines is the first airline in the world to test the IATA Travel Pass app. The umbrella organization helped develop the application for digital health checks in the course of the CoV crisis.

The app will be used for the first time for passengers traveling from Singapore to London from March 15 to 28, 2021. It should work like this: Passengers can create a digital ID including a profile photo and passport data. Via an online portal, travelers will then have the opportunity to book their Covid-19 test before departure in one of seven participating clinics in Singapore. The test results and the confirmation status for the flight then appear directly on the mobile phone.

Air travelers must then show this confirmed status to the check-in staff before departure at Changi Airport. Not only that. "In accordance with the current regulatory requirements, you must also bring a paper copy of your health certificate, which was issued by the clinic where you did your Covid-19 test," the airline informs.

If the pilot phase is successfully completed, the airline would like to integrate the entire digital health check process into the mobile SingaporeAir app from the middle of the year. "This will provide our customers with a simple digital solution in the new normal and contribute to a more pleasant travel experience," said JoAnn Tan, Acting Senior Vice President Marketing Planning at Singapore Airlines.
