The online retailer Amazon is looking for additional aircraft to be converted into freighters. In particular, the used Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A330-300 have had an eye.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Amazon plans to buy at least ten A330-300s and an unspecified number of Boeing 777-300ERs. However, it has not yet been decided whether these should be bought or leased. In any case, it is certain that these are passenger planes that are to be converted into freighters.

Amazon does not operate the “Prime Air” fleet itself, but leases the machines to various operators who are then paid per flight hour. According to Bloomberg, the increase in the fleet has a deep background, because in future goods will be flown directly from China to the Amazon hubs. The aim is to bypass the congested container ports and deliver faster to customers all over the world. However, Amazon itself did not want to comment on this.
