Oneworld member American Airlines intends to raise additional liquidity on the capital market through a further capital increase. The group announced that up to 38,5 million new shares are to be issued for this purpose. These are said to be available for purchase at around $ 13 each.

The carrier intends to use the capital increase to get around 500 million US dollars into its coffers, which are tight due to the corona crisis. Bank of America is acting as a partner in this capital market transaction and intends to subscribe for 5,8 million shares.

American Airlines issued both a convertible bond and a new campaign in June 2020. This raised around $ 1,5 billion. The loss, however, is overwhelming: the deficit was around $ 2020 billion in the third quarter of 2,4 alone. Many employees are now threatened with unemployment due to the termination of a Trump administration program.
