Due to the corona pandemic, American Airlines has slipped deep into the red. The carrier reports a loss of around 2020 billion euros for the second quarter of 1,8. The number of passengers carried dropped by 86 percent to 5,5 million travelers.

The Oneworld member was only able to reduce operating costs by 62 percent. However, sales fell to $ 1,6 billion. In the same quarter last year, the bottom line was a profit of 662 million US dollars.

As the financial situation becomes increasingly dramatic, American Airlines is raising fresh capital in the financial market. To this end, both new shares and bonds were issued. As a result of these measures, the cash balance has been increased to $ 10,2 billion. It is also expected that government funds in the amount of 4,75 billion US dollars will be paid out over the course of the year.
