Amsterdam fears renewed capacity bottlenecks

At Amsterdam Airport in the Netherlands, it is feared that the acute staff shortage cannot be eliminated before the main holiday period. An airport spokesman told the daily newspaper De Telegraaf that there could be capacity restrictions again.

Hundreds of positions are still vacant, especially in the areas of baggage handling and security personnel. In addition, many employees still have open annual holidays. Of course, they want to recover, so that the already thin staffing level could become even thinner.

If the problems cannot be solved, according to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, the airlines and service providers operating on site will have to reduce capacity again. "The lack of staff at some handlers can result in an aircraft being delayed, which could also delay one of our aircraft and thus affect our operations," a KLM media officer was quoted as saying.
