Amsterdam: Transavia has to reduce the 2022 summer flight schedule

Transavia, the low-cost airline of the Air France KLM group, had to reduce its service from Amsterdam-Schiphol due to the cap on passenger numbers. The carrier canceled numerous connections from the flight schedule in the calendar months of July and August 2022.

The largest airport in the Netherlands is suffering from an acute shortage of staff and has therefore not worked for several weeks from the headlines. One hopes that through the Restriction on the number of passengerswho are allowed to use the airport every day can take countermeasures. However, this inevitably means that the airlines have to reduce their offers. The consequence of this is that there are numerous cancellations during the peak travel season. For example Royal Jordanian moved individual circulations temporarily to Maastricht.

However, the Dutch government also wants to ensure that fewer flights are flown from Schiphol in the long term. From the autumn of next year, the Slots are significantly reduced. As a result, KLM has to downsize its hub and, according to its own statements, has no more opportunities for growth. Point-to-point flights are to be relocated to Lelystad, but it is still completely unclear whether this airport will ever get the necessary operating license because the local population offers stubborn resistance.

Transavia is not happy that in July and August 2022 had to cancel numerous flights. It is reported that in most cases alternative transport, for example with KLM or with a transfer, can be offered, but unfortunately not always. “We expect that we will receive further information from Schiphol in early July about the measures required for the month of August. We may also have to change or cancel a number of flights in August," the low-cost carrier said in a media statement.

Transavia is also restricting the sale of tickets departing from Schiphol in July and August in order to reduce the number of passengers departing from the airport. Previously, Schiphol Airport had announced that it would reduce the number of departing passengers between July 7 and August 28, 2022 due to a lack of security personnel.
