At Japanese All Nippon Airways, drastic cuts are imminent due to the corona crisis. Around half of the long-haul fleet, which consists of 60 machines, is to be shut down and up to 3.500 jobs are on the brink.
The downsizing is expected to be completed by 2022. Whenever possible, people in Japan want to avoid dismissals that are frowned upon and prefer not to fill them in the event of retirement or voluntary resignations. However, you cannot completely rule out redundancies for operational reasons. In Japanese culture, loyalty to the company is extremely important, so employee resignations are very rare and are only the absolute utmost remedy.
Kydo news also writes that the long-haul strategy will be revised. As a result, around 30 out of 60 long haul jets have to be shut down. It is not known whether these can ever be put back into service. Japan's entry and quarantine regulations are extremely strict. This is extremely detrimental to ANA and its competitors' business. Tourist entries are currently not possible.
