A significant anniversary is being celebrated at Nuremberg Airport: exactly 25 years ago, on June 25, 1999, the new control tower of the German Air Traffic Control (DFS) began operations. The 47-meter-high tower, designed by the renowned architectural team Behnisch & Partner, replaced the older tower from 1955 and has since been considered a striking landmark in Nuremberg's Knoblauchsland region.
The tower's design was selected after a competition and is characterized by its elegant and unusual architecture. Today, the tower not only represents the latest air traffic control technology, but also aesthetic innovation.
Airport Managing Director Dr. Michael Hupe emphasized the future viability and elegance of the tower and congratulated the company on its anniversary. The DFS Tower in Nuremberg continues to be a central component of air traffic control and a symbol of successful cooperation between the airport and air traffic control.
