April 2023: Zurich reaches 90 percent of the pre-crisis volume

Zurich Kloten Airport was used by 2023 travelers in April 2.450.409. In a direct comparison with the same month last year, Switzerland's largest airport was able to increase by 34 percent. 90 percent of the pre-crisis level was reached.

This corresponds to the highest monthly value compared to the pre-pandemic level. On April 28, 2023, 95.196 passengers traveled through Zurich Airport, which corresponds to the highest number of passengers per day since the outbreak of the corona pandemic.

The number of local passengers in April 2023 was 1.745.811. The proportion of transfer passengers was 29%, which corresponds to 699.628 passengers. The number of flight movements rose by 15% compared to the same month last year to 20.529 take-offs or landings. Monthly comparison shows that flight movements are 88% of 2019 levels. At 136 passengers, the average number of passengers per flight was 11% higher than in the previous year. Seat occupancy increased by 6 percentage points to 81% in the month under review compared to the same month last year.

A total of 31.706 tonnes of freight were handled at Zurich Airport in April. This corresponds to a decrease of 14% compared to the same month last year. Compared to April 2019, 15% less freight was handled.
