The year 2020 was definitely an "epidemic year" for the aircraft manufacturer ATR. The joint venture between Airbus and Leonardo was only able to land six new orders. Also, only ten machines were handed over to customers, according to the Leonardo's annual report.

The same is true of competitor de Havilland Aircraft of Canada not particularly successful. This manufacturer even announced the at least temporary cessation of production of the Dash 8-400. The reason for this is that there are no more new orders. The backlog is still being processed and then the doors in Toronto will close indefinitely.

ATR was rather confronted with the fact that customers wanted to postpone their orders first. However, it was possible to become increasingly stronger in the freight sector, because 50 ATR72-600Fs could be sold to FedEx, for example. Deliveries have been running since the end of 2020. The European manufacturer intends to push this segment more strongly this year.
