Austrian Airlines passengers can now fly CO2-neutrally with just one click for every booking.
If you want to fly in an environmentally friendly way, you can now co-finance the purchase of sustainable aviation fuel from the AUA with a surcharge on the ticket. Previously it was only possible to pay money for CO2 compensation projects when purchasing the ticket. However, the new surcharge is significantly higher: If you want to offset your CO2 emissions for a flight to Frankfurt with climate protection projects, you have to pay 1,71 euros - for sustainable aviation fuel 53,55 euros are charged.
Three options now offer the opportunity to reduce or offset the CO2 emissions of the flight directly before completing a flight booking. For an immediate reduction in CO2 emissions, passengers can support the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). A second variant is the compensation of CO2 emissions via climate protection projects from Climate Austria. These promote measurable climate protection by saving CO2 in the long term by promoting renewable energies. The third possibility is a combination of both options.
“By integrating the possibilities for CO2- neutral flying in the booking process should make it easier for our guests to contribute to sustainable travel and CO2-to discover the world neutrally. As the only Austrian airline, we already use sustainable fuel in flight operations and make CO2- neutral flying possible for our guests,” says Austrian Airlines CCO Michael Trestl. Austrian Airlines wants to increase its net CO2-Have emissions by 2019 compared to 2030 and all CO by 20502- operate neutrally.
In addition to the Austrian Lufthansa subsidiary, Swiss and Brussels also integrate the possibility of offsetting directly into the flight booking process.
