Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian Airlines will be charging for food and drinks on short and medium-haul flights in economy class from the summer flight schedule 2021. At AUA, the menu has not yet been finalized. What is certain, however, is that the so-called “à la carte menus”, which previously could be pre-ordered for 15 euros, will not have a comeback.

Have in the past few weeks Lufthansa and Swiss presented their menus and future prices for catering on board. At Austrian Airlines they are a little slower and on request they explain that they are still in the process of finalizing, but will be communicating the prices and the offer in the next few days.

The cooperation with the previous partner Do & Co will be continued, announced the AUA on Wednesday. According to a spokesman, there will be apple strudel, schnitzel, Brettljause and sausage rolls for a fee. When asked how deeply one has to dig into the wallet, the media officer said that this has not yet been determined and referred to the presentation of the menu. This should take place "in the next few days".

For several months now, the “à la carte menus” from Do & Co have no longer been available for purchase. In the past, these were sold at a price of 15 euros, but only if they were ordered in advance. The AUA spokesman confirmed to Aviation Direct that this offer has finally been discontinued and will definitely not be reactivated. The replacement is the buy-on-board concept, which will be available under the “Henry for Austrian” brand on short and medium-haul flights with a flight duration of less than three hours. Food and drinks will continue to be included in business class.
