In the 2023/24 winter timetable, Austrian Airlines passengers to/from Klagenfurt will have to get used to significantly fewer rotations. Sometimes there is only one flight per day on certain days.

Available flight plan data show that on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday there are only flights from Vienna to Klagenfurt and then back to the federal capital at around 9:30 a.m. Only on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays should there be an early-evening Vienna-Klagenfurt-Vienna route, leaving Austria's largest airport at 17:15 p.m.

Further thinning occurs, for example, during the Christmas holidays, although this was already common on this route before the corona pandemic. According to Austrian Airlines, the reason behind the reduction in the offer on the domestic Austrian route is that the demand should not be sufficient. However, a report by the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation contradicts this. In this it is said that the machines should be well utilized.

The Chamber of Commerce is now also placing hopes in the new airport boss Maximilian Wildt, because connections to other hubs, such as Munich and/or Hamburg, would reduce dependency on Austrian Airlines. The airport says in a nutshell that they are in intensive talks with the AUA and one of the major goals of the airport management would be to be able to set up a hub connection to an airport in Germany.

For logical reasons, the only possible operator would be the Lufthansa Group itself or a partner airline that has the necessary interlining and codeshare agreements. However, the interest in Klagenfurt seems to be kept within very narrow limits, because only this year you have that from your daughter Eurowings served Cologne route discontinued.
