The Vida union has announced that it will hold works meetings with AUA on-board personnel on March 7.3.2023th, XNUMX. According to the AUA, this leads to delays and flight cancellations. The EU Air Passenger Rights Regulation offers protection and a clear legal framework for affected travelers.

Is it coming to a short-term cancellation a planned flight for which a ticket has already been purchased, as a passenger you have the right to:

  • can Ticket price refund including taxes and fees
  • the material moisture meter shows you the  Return flight to departure point at the earliest possible time
  • alternative transportation to the destination under comparable conditions at no additional cost to the passenger (as soon as possible or, at the passenger's request, at a later date).
  • indemnities, which depend on the route booked and can be up to EUR 600 per person.

Since this is a works meeting of the transport company itself, not of a sub-company (e.g. ground staff), this no "extraordinary circumstance" that releases the airline from the obligation to pay compensation.

"It is important to first contact the airline before booking alternative transportation on your own. As a general rule, alternative transportation should be offered proactively' advises Maria-Theresia Röhsler, Managing Director of the Agency for Passenger and Passenger Rights.

The guidelines issued by the European Commission further discuss that an air carrier must reimburse the cost of re-routing if it fails to comply with the obligation to offer re-routing under comparable travel conditions. If the air carrier does not offer a choice between refund or rerouting, but unilaterally decides to refund the original ticket cost, passengers are entitled to a refund of the additional cost of the new ticket under comparable travel conditions.

Should the flight take place but delayed passengers are entitled to the following services:

  • care services from a two hour Departure delay (Food and drinks or hotel and transfer costs for delays of more than one day).
  • compensation payments from a more than three hour late arrival at destination.
Depending on the route booked, passengers will be reimbursed up to EUR 600 per person.

Passengers who are affected by a cancellation or a flight delay as a result of the works meetings at AUA can find a sample letter on the apf website with which they can claim their passenger rights from the airline: https://www.apf.gv.at/de/musterbriefe-entschaedigung-fluglinie.html

Receive them within a period of six weeks no or no satisfactory answer from the airline, the apf will help you free of charge and commission-free to their right.
