On Sunday there were long waiting times at the security checkpoint at Vienna-Schwechat Airport. Those affected claim that they had to queue for around 1,5 hours. Existing private photos show that the queues stretched straight through Terminal 2 into Terminals 1 and 3.

The main rush obviously had to be dealt with by the Vias employees in terminal building 2, which was only recently put back into operation. Travelers also had to queue longer in Terminal 3, but it was said to have been less busy there. Some smart passengers, who are aware that there is a shuttle bus between security areas in the security area, have therefore switched to T3.

Vienna Airport makes no secret of the fact that there is a heavy rush of passengers on Sunday morning. They have already reacted and increased the capacity of the security checks. It is to be hoped that this will shorten waiting times, because even before the corona pandemic, long queues in front of the security check in Terminal 2, which were still carried out in the area of the B gates for Schengen flights at the time, were part of the agenda, especially during the early waves.

Passengers can also make a small contribution to ensure that security checks can be carried out more quickly. For example, you can use the waiting time to remove liquids, take the laptop out of your pocket and, if necessary, you can already take off your belt, watch and so on. It is also very advisable to think about what is allowed in hand luggage and what is not, so that full jam jars and the like do not have to be removed individually by the security staff.
