The Wizzair Group counted a total of 2020 passengers in August 2.381.214. In direct comparison with the same period in the previous year, there are significantly fewer travelers, but there was a considerable increase compared to July 2020.

The sharp rise in the number of passengers in view of the corona pandemic can be attributed to various circumstances: On the one hand, the calendar months July and August are traditionally the most travel-intensive months and, on the other hand, the entry regulations during this period were comparatively relaxed. That changed in relation to the Balkan region as early as July 2020 and increasingly strict entry and quarantine regulations have been issued again since around mid-August. These will be drastically reflected in the figures for September 2020 and the following months.

If you look at the following graphic, in which the transport performance of the first eight months of 2020 is compared with the previous year's figures, it becomes very clear that Wizzair is initially starting 2020 with record figures. From March onwards, due to the outbreak of the corona pandemic in Europe, the heavy drop followed. Wizzair has been able to report increasing numbers again since May 2020, but is significantly below the previous year due to the sum of all circumstances.

Also in view of the fact that Austrian Airlines boss Alexis von Hoensbroech accused Wizzair General Director Jozsef Varadi that anyone could fly with empty aircraft, the consideration of Wizzair occupancy is possibly more interesting and informative than the total number of those carried Passengers.

It should be noted here that the low-cost airline recorded only minimal declines in the months from January to March 2020. In January it was even higher than the previous year. The sharp slump followed at Wizzair in April 2020. Since then, the company has not recovered, but was able to increase the load factor to 70,9 percent in August. For comparison: in the same month last year, the occupancy rate was 96,3 percent.
