There could be massive restrictions on Australian air traffic on December 9, 2022, because a union is calling on firefighters at a total of 27 airports to go on warning strikes.

The background is that the United Firefighters Union of Australia believes that there should be an acute shortage of personnel. With the nationwide work stoppages, you want to set an example and increase the pressure on new hires. The current plan is for the strike to take place between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

Since an operational fire brigade is a prerequisite for commercial flight operations to be carried out, the union assumes that no flights can take off or land during the industrial dispute. Airservices Australia had previously laid off around 100 firefighters.

During the corona pandemic, it was felt that this was necessary due to savings and it was hoped that those affected could be hired again at a later date. However, most of them were no longer interested and have reoriented their careers elsewhere. The employee representatives warn that at some locations the operational readiness of the fire brigade should be severely restricted.
