Oneworld members Qantas and Japan Airlines want to deepen their cooperation in traffic between Japan and Australia. However, the calculation was made without the Australian competition authority. This has temporarily prohibited the plans.
The office announced, among other things, that competition must remain intact even after the travel restrictions have been lifted. It is believed that coordinating the schedules and tariffs of Qantas and Japan Airlines could hinder potential competitors. Ticket prices are also expected to rise.
The two carriers concerned are disappointed in a first media statement, but want to continue their cooperation within the framework of the Oneword alliance. This also applies to codeshare contracts. However, the planned deeper cooperation will not come about for the time being due to the prohibition on the part of the Australian competition authority.
