After a good three years of pandemic, there is good news for domestic tourism: Austrians are traveling again - and like to buy tickets online. Online spending by Austrians on travel increased by 2022% in 119.

Concardis Austria - part of the Nexi Group, one of the leading European paytech providers - can prove this on the basis of the international e-commerce report 2022. “People are traveling again and booking their offers online. There are great opportunities for Austrian tourism and event providers. Creating good online offers now and equipping them with the right payment solutions leads to considerable growth in sales,” comments Damir Leko, Country General Manager of Concardis Austria. Travel bookings are key drivers of Austrian e-commerce.

The consumption potential of e-commerce for the Austrian economy totaled around 2022 billion euros in 30 - an increase of almost 30% compared to 2021. A large part of this growth comes from travel bookings: 11,6 billion euros were spent online for hotels, flights, charter and Package tours issued. Online bookings for cruises (1,2 billion euros) and train tickets (300 million euros) are also very popular with Austrians. Interest in stadium visits, concerts and cultural events has also increased. In 2022, Austrians spent 800 million euros on tickets online – an increase of 180%.
