Austrian Airlines has not been flying to Milan Linate Airport for many years. That could change soon, because the Lufthansa subsidiary was able to get hold of the coveted take-off and landing rights at the inner-city airport as part of a redistribution. Both the Italian coordinator and the airline itself confirmed this to Aviation Direct.
Austrian Airlines was allocated slots in Linate for routes to Vienna and Salzburg. While it looks more specific from the federal capital, the company has not yet commented on possible flights between Linate and the Mozart city. The fact that you have the necessary take-off and landing rights in your pocket does not necessarily mean that the AUA will also record the corresponding routes. If not used, these expire and are given to other airlines by the coordinator.
A spokesman for the AUA told Aviation Direct: “We have been trying for a long time to round off our products for our business customers from Milan and Lombardy in general. That is why we applied for slots at Linate Airport, which is close to the city, and have now received them. It is not yet clear whether or when we will start flights between Vienna and Linate. Milan-Malpensa remains in our offer ”.
