In the past few days, Lufthansa and its subsidiaries Swiss, Brussels Airlines and Eurowings have canceled and withdrawn numerous flights that were planned for the main holiday season in 2022. Austrian Airlines is of the opinion that such drastic measures should not be taken.

Nevertheless, Austrian Airlines cannot rule out the possibility of “individual cancellations” during the summer of 2022. Within the group of companies, for example, the sister company Swiss will take over the wings and take over all connections between Vienna and Zurich in July and August 2022, a spokesman told Aviation.Direct.

The Vida union believes that there could be bottlenecks during the Austrian summer holidays. Head of department Daniel Liebhart points out that many employees are missing from air traffic control, airports and service providers. It would be "everything done" for a summer chaos, said the employee representative. Also, some airlines have too few flight attendants.

When asked how they had prepared for the summer of 2022, Austrian Airlines explained as follows: "For smooth flight operations, the interaction of our partners at home and abroad is necessary (such as with airports or air traffic control). Austrian Airlines has prepared as well as possible for midsummer and the holiday season, hired 150 new flight attendants and, above all, is in good contact with its partners in Vienna. From the current point of view, stable flight operations should be possible, individual cancellations over the course of the summer - as in other years - cannot generally be ruled out. Together with the other airlines in the Lufthansa Group, Austrian Airlines is trying to cushion the effects of any cancellations as best as possible. For example, Austrian will take over the Swiss flights between Vienna and Zurich in the months of July and August.
