The passengers of Austrian Airlines flight OS381 actually wanted to fly from Vienna to Lviv on January 17, 2022. However, this turned into a sightseeing flight, so that the passengers had to disembark again at the Austrian capital airport.

The Embraer 195 with the registration OE-LWC was already shortly before the destination airport in Ukraine, but then turned around and flew back to Vienna. A spokeswoman for Austrian Airlines told Aviation.Direct that the landing in Lviv was not possible due to bad weather and snow on the runway.

Nearby are Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Uzhhorod airports, which would have been suitable for landing Embraer 195 aircraft. Confronted with this, the AUA media officer replied that "the airports mentioned cannot be approached operationally for us".

As a result, the passengers did not reach their destination of Lviv, but unexpectedly returned to Vienna-Schwechat. Those affected were rebooked on other connections and should reach their destination Lviv as quickly as possible.
