From May 20, 2022, Austrian Airlines will add Los Angeles to its route network again. Five weekly rotations are planned. In Europe, Valencia and Kavala, among others, will be served again.

“We are continuously expanding our offer with new long-haul travel destinations. In doing so, we are meeting the demand from our passengers, which showed last summer that people want to travel. The new winter destination Cancún also confirms this desire to travel,” says Austrian Airlines Board Member for Sales Michael Trestl. “Los Angeles is the gateway to California, a popular vacation destination and transfer hub for onward flights with our partners. At the new destination, we expect a balanced number of local and transfer passengers who change trains in Vienna”. The last destination Los Angeles was in the summer of 2019 in the AUA flight plan.

In the direction of the United States of America, Austrian Airlines intends to offer up to 2022 rotations per week in the summer of 33. The four US destinations are to be served daily again. The flight time from Vienna to Los Angeles, around 9.900 kilometers away, is 12:30 hours.

Focus on Mediterranean destinations

On short and medium-haul routes, the focus in summer 2022 will be on tourist destinations around the Mediterranean. A total of 36 destinations are offered in this region. “The offer on short and medium-haul routes will also be significantly expanded and consolidated compared to the previous year. As a result, we are increasing capacity by 12 aircraft," says Michael Trestl.

Austrian Airlines flies to a total of 78 holiday destinations in Greece up to 19 times a week in summer. In addition to 17 rotations per week to Athens and eleven weekly connections to Heraklion, destinations such as Rhodes with six, Mykonos with three or Zakynthos with five weekly flights are also served. Furthermore, rotations to Samos or Volos are in the program and from June 14, Kavala on the Aegean coast will also be offered as a new destination and will be served on Tuesdays.

In the direction of Spain, for example, there are up to three times a day to Palma de Mallorca, twice a day to Barcelona, up to five times a week to Ibiza with optimized connections at weekends, four times a week to Malaga, twice a week to Gran Canaria and Tenerife as well once a week to Menorca. From June 4th, Valencia on the Spanish Mediterranean coast will be included in the Austrian route network for the first time and will be served on Tuesdays and Saturdays (bookable from February 1st).

Italy is this year with 11 destinations in the summer program. These include Catania, Olbia, Cagliari, Lamezia/Therme and classic cities such as Rome, Milan and Bologna. Florence will be served up to twice a day this summer. Overall, Austrian flies to Italian destinations up to 115 times a week during the summer peak.

Numerous other destinations will be served with increased frequency in the summer of 2022. For example, Sofia is offered with up to 24, Tirana with up to 17 and Nice with up to 14 connections per week. Iceland will be served up to four times a week from June 4th. "We are consistently continuing on our course as Austria's home airline and connecting Austria to Europe and the world in the best possible way," says Austrian Airlines Board Member for Sales Michael Trestl.
