Simple MNS masks will be obsolete in many areas in Austria from January 25, 2021. The federal government wants FFP2 masks to be worn on public transport from this day, among other things. According to the Ministry of Health, this also applies to airplanes. Austrian Airlines assumes that FFP25 masks will have to be worn from January 2021, 2.

However, the AUA is like many Austrian companies: Apart from the verbal announcement by the government around Sebastian Kurz, nothing is known yet. The corresponding ordinance has not yet been published in the Federal Law Gazette. A spokeswoman for Austrian Airlines told Aviation Direct: "We are still waiting for the relevant confirmation from the authorities on the subject, but we assume that this will also apply to us".

The matter has a catch, however, because due to international agreements, the Austrian government can only make airlines with Austrian approval compulsory FFP2. This is not possible with foreign carriers - with the exception of domestic traffic. More on this in this article.
