With the increasing vaccination rate and relaxed entry requirements in many European countries, Austrians are once again feeling the urge to travel.

The longing to finally put your feet in the sand again is noticeably great. This was already evident on the long weekend on Corpus Christi, which many passengers used for a short vacation in the south. Greece, Spain and Italy were the top 3 travel destinations. To meet the increased demand, Austrian Airlines temporarily deployed larger aircraft than originally planned and launched additional flights.

A look at the months June to August also makes the red-white-red home airline confident. “Demand is increasing every day, and new bookings have even quadrupled on many routes since mid-May. Furthermore, it can be seen that longer-term bookings are also increasingly being made again, ”reports Austrian Airlines Board Member for Sales Michael Trestl. For summer holidays, Mediterranean destinations such as Greece, Cyprus, Italy and Spain, including Mallorca, are among the most popular travel destinations.

“The booking dynamics show that we are serving the travel needs of Austrians very well with our summer flight schedule, which mainly goes to inner-European destinations on the Mediterranean. With a total of more than 100 destinations, we offer a variety of destinations at pre-crisis level in midsummer, ”says CCO Michael Trestl. Of course, these are not yet being served with the usual frequency density, but the production level in the tourism sector is already back at the pre-crisis level. With the recently announced travel relief for returning from Cyprus, Croatia, the Netherlands and Sweden, as well as with the entry into force of the Green Pass, further growth in bookings is expected.
