Evaluation: Germans are increasingly booking long-haul destinations

A current evaluation of the OTA Skyscanner comes to the result that more and more long-haul destinations are being booked again in Germany. Destinations in Mexico are particularly popular.

The figures published by the aforementioned online travel agent allow at least the assumption that trips to distant places are desired again. This can be related to both real demand and the simple fact that many destinations are currently cheap to reach.

But not only destinations by the sea are very popular, metropolitan regions are also on the wish lists of many Germans for autumn and winter. The most popular countries when looking for long haul flights are the United States, Thailand, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt. This is also reflected in the most sought-after cities: Cancun is in first place, followed by New York, Bangkok, Dubai and the beach domicile Phuket. The bookings show that many travelers have already secured their long-haul trips: Mexico, Egypt, the USA, India and Russia make up the top five of the most frequently booked long-haul destinations for trips up to the end of the year. Bookers currently pay an average of 558 and 550 euros respectively for a return flight to Mexico and the USA.

“German travelers have always enjoyed fleeing to sunny climes in autumn and winter, and warm destinations are particularly popular in winter. Despite the constantly changing travel situation, we see a very responsive travel community that dreams of destinations like Dubai, Cancun and Bangkok, ”explains Friederike Burge, travel expert at Skyscanner.
