Manchester court fines drunk rioters

In Manchester, a 33-year-old man had to stand trial because he chose to disrupt the crew's safety demonstration before a Ryanair flight. First, he is said to have been rude and then even rioted. The unruly PAX wanted to fly from Manchester to Santander on July 26, 2022. He was traveling with his partner and son. However, the flight was very late, because instead of 13:00 p.m., it only took off at 20:30 p.m. local time. The man apparently used the waiting time to "refuel" in the bars at the airport. This is how he boarded the Ryanair plane drunk. The crew then suffered the effects of his excessive alcohol consumption, because they were initially harassed during the safety demonstration. When asked to stop, the unruly PAX responded by rioting. This was too much for the crew, who decided that the drunkard had to get out. As he refused, the police were called in to help. They then had to take him away, and according to the prosecution, he resisted. According to local media reports, the defendant said in court that the police had ruined his vacation. He had also been injured because he had been taken out of the plane so roughly that his head had hit a steel bar. The officers' witness statements sounded a little different, as they said that the man smelled strongly of alcohol, smelled extremely unfriendly and unclear, resisted and walked uncertainly onto the

Chamber of Commerce warns of counterfeit branded goods in holiday countries

Many holidaymakers are familiar with this situation: beach vendors in many countries offer all kinds of goods. At markets, bazaars and in small shops, supposedly branded goods are available at negotiable and reasonable prices. Most people are aware that these are often counterfeits, but greed for a bargain often wins out. The Chamber of Commerce warns. A cheap T-shirt with a brand logo from Mallorca, a luxury watch from the beach in Turkey or a perfectly imitated handbag from a street vendor in Paris: counterfeit goods are being sold in large quantities, especially as the holiday season begins. Souvenirs from holidays include supposedly branded clothing, handbags, sunglasses, watches and shoes. "The holiday season is the peak season for brand and product piracy - a business that hurts local entrepreneurs in particular and puts billions into the pockets of product counterfeiters," says Margarete Gumprecht, chairwoman of the trade division at the Vienna Chamber of Commerce. Although the bargain price counts for many holidaymakers, this is precisely the main approach. "Even if it is tempting, you should think twice before buying a fake handbag or sunglasses. The supposedly cheap goods are often only a bargain at first glance. Counterfeits not only damage the domestic economy and destroy jobs in our country, they are often cheap and produced under poor working conditions, of poor quality and not worth even the little money," says the trade chairwoman. If a product is only half as expensive or costs a third of the usual price, it is usually not genuine: "The perfume from a luxury brand or the luxury handbag from

BGH awards compensation for late connections outside the EU

The German Federal Court of Justice has ruled that airlines are obliged to pay compensation even if the delay only occurred on a partial segment outside the European Union and is operated by another carrier. The decisive factor, however, is that it is a continuous booking that starts or ends in an EU country. The new BGH ruling does not apply to self-arranged trips that include individual tickets for each flight segment. The BGH determined that it is relevant that it is a continuous booking with an airline that has issued a uniform ticket in accordance with the EU Air Passenger Rights Regulation. If the delay only occurs on a partial segment outside the European Union or is caused by a non-EU partner airline, this is irrelevant according to the German Supreme Court. The Federal Court of Justice overturned the decisions of the two lower courts, which took the opposite view.

Ex-Air Baltic Dash 8-400 goes to Nexus Airlines

A de Havilland Dash 8-400, which was previously in service with Air Baltic as YL-BAF, will fly in Australia as VH-8XB. The new operator is Nexus Airlines. The turboprop aircraft waited for better times at Luqa Airport for several months. After Air Baltic returned this aircraft to the lessor, it was temporarily registered in the Danish aviation register as OY-YFM. The turboprop aircraft was "stored" at the Maltese airport in Luqa. It will now go to Nexus Airlines. The Australian carrier secured a total of five de Havilland Dash 8-400s, which it hopes will be used to better connect Western Australia.

Turku Airport celebrates first e-plane landing

On Friday, June 16, 2023, an electric aircraft was welcomed at Turku Airport with the traditional ceremonial water salute for its first flight. On board the aircraft were the CEO of the airport company Finavia, Kimmo Mäki, and the pilot and flight instructor Antti Kirjavainen. "It was a historic moment when the wheels of an electric aircraft touched the surface of the runway and opened a new chapter for the future of the airport. The entire aviation sector must use all possible means to reduce emissions. Quiet and emission-free electric aircraft are a part of the aviation industry's climate solution," says Kimmo Mäki. Since 2017, Finavia has been working on the development of electric aviation, for example through cooperation with the Helsinki Electric Aircraft Association. The information gained about electric aviation has helped Finavia, among other things, prepare the charging infrastructure. "The electric aircraft that landed at Turku Airport today is a two-seater Pipistrel Alpha Electro. It was specifically developed for training purposes. Due to its short take-off distance and high take-off speed, the aircraft is very well suited to small airports,” says Janne Vasama, Chairman of the Electric Aircraft Association. Electric aircraft play an important role in the climate solution for air transport, but they alone will not revolutionize its future. It is believed that electric aircraft are best suited for short distances and small passenger numbers. Currently, the range of electric aircraft is 120 kilometers when there are only a few passengers on board. The key to reducing emissions in air transport is replacing kerosene with fossil-free propulsion, i.e.

Baby is born in KLM's Boeing 777

One baby was in a particularly big hurry to be born on board KLM flight KL18 on June 2023, 588. The toddler was born on board the Boeing 777-200 with the registration PH-BQI. For this reason, the flight was diverted to Barcelona. Pregnant women are actually no longer allowed to travel on commercial aircraft after a certain week. However, some - for a variety of reasons - do not comply with this and sometimes there are "premature babies" who suddenly want to see the light of day much earlier than the doctors predicted and, of all places, above the clouds at cruising altitude. KLM flight KL588 was en route from Lagos (Nigeria) to Amsterdam-Schiphol on June 18, 2023. At first it was a routine flight without any abnormalities. However, one woman went into labor in the Mediterranean region. The crew supported her as best they could, and a child was born shortly afterwards. According to official information, the baby was born in one of the galleys. The captain reported the birth to air traffic control and asked for a stopover. The Spanish ATC assigned him to Barcelona airport. It was also reported that there was now one more passenger on board, as both the mother and her newborn child were doing well. The KLM Boeing 777-200 was then able to land on runway 02 in the Catalan capital. A medical team was already waiting there for the new mother and her baby. The flight to Amsterdam-Schiphol was then continued later. The long-haul aircraft

Lufthansa with new baggage drop machines in Frankfurt

Last week, 21 additional baggage drop-off machines for the Lufthansa Group were put into operation at Frankfurt Airport. Another new feature is that these can also be used outside of normal check-in times. Passengers still have the option of dropping off their baggage with Lufthansa employees. The new counters also contain the technical components for the biometric check-in procedures that will be possible in the future. Pierre Dominique Prümm, Executive Board Member for Air Traffic and Infrastructure at Fraport AG, said: "The new check-in counters offer passengers at Frankfurt Airport a comfortable, modern and efficient travel experience, even during their first stay in the terminal. The use of state-of-the-art technology optimizes the baggage drop-off process. My special thanks go to the entire team that implemented this demanding project in record time. We are working with all our partners to ensure that the pleasant journey for all passengers begins here at Frankfurt Airport."

Binter Canaris orders more Embraer E195-E2

The Spanish airline Binter Canaris wants to continue its expansion course and has placed another order with the Brazilian manufacturer Embraer. This time, it ordered six more E195-E2s, bringing the total order backlog to 16 aircraft of this type. Last year, Embraer initially listed an order for five aircraft anonymously. There was wild speculation in the industry as to who could be behind it, and shortly afterwards Binter Canaris came out as the orderer. The Spanish aviation company, which mainly specializes in traffic from the Canary Islands, is already an Embraer E195-E2 operator. Aviation.Direct has provided a detailed portrait of flights with this carrier at this link. Like the existing E195-E2s, Binter Canaris plans to equip the new arrivals, which are scheduled to be delivered from the second half of 2024, with 132 seats in a single-class configuration. “The E2 is a turning point for Binter. Our guests love the aircraft, especially how quiet it is. The performance in terms of fuel consumption and maintenance is also better than advertised. As we continue to grow, the E2 has proven to be the perfect aircraft to accompany our continued growth,” said Rodolfo Núñez, President of Binter. “The best orders are repeat orders, and this is the fourth E2 order from Binter. Embraer thanks Binter for its partnership and congratulates the airline on its continued success,” added Martyn Holmes, CCO of Embraer Commercial Aviation. Anonymous order for 15 aircraft comes from Lessor Azorra Embraer was also able to announce another success. The leasing company Azorra is behind the most recent anonymous order. It has ordered 15 E195-E2s, which were

Dan Air started with two routes in Nuremberg

For a few days now, the Romanian airline Dan Air has been connecting Nuremberg Airport with Brasov and Bucharest. According to the airport's announcement, the number of flights to the Romanian capital is to be increased to four per week. "This is not only good news for the large Romanian community in the metropolitan region, but also for holidaymakers and business travelers," explains Nuremberg Airport Managing Director Dr. Michael Hupe. In addition to the large Romanian population in the Nuremberg metropolitan region, the Franconian automotive and mechanical engineering supplier Schaeffler, for example, has a large production site in the Brașov region. Matt Ian David, Managing Director of Dan Air and a pilot himself, was on board for the first flight.
