Education at the Limit: A Deep Discussion in Baden

On November 14, 2024, an exciting, critical discussion duel took place in the Theater am Steg in Baden between the former educator, school director, still active author and columnist Niki Glattauer and the child and adolescent psychiatrist Dr. Leonhard Thun-Hohenstein. Both have always actively cared for the well-being of children and young people and try to give voice to the worries and fears of the growing generations. The focus of the discussion was what role today's school and all educators should have in the lives of the younger generation and what is going wrong right now. Glattauer calls for a paradigm shift in the education system and wants schools to be: "A place of socialization and communication, of promoting empathy and of discovering the talents, inclinations and interests of the students. He mentions that he himself is not against cell phones in class, only against them when they are used during recess and the interaction between the children is neglected. Media, technology and computers are becoming increasingly important in the working world and therefore schools, as institutions of teaching and learning, cannot exclude them. He does not deny that our society, or more precisely the education system, is adapting too slowly to its environment and that children are therefore already hearing outdated information in school. The challenge for the education system is today's fast-paced life and that is why it is all the more important to be in tune with the times. Of course, the PISA study was also discussed and Glattauer expressed the opinion: "Of course we can only focus our students on the

The Vienna Hofburg, mostly in the headlines due to political issues, was transformed into the largest bar in Europe on October 21, 2024 by the Falstaff publishing house, according to its own information. This event was a must-have-been-there event for all connoisseurs of fine cuisine and elegant spirits. The event took place in the magnificent ballrooms of the Vienna Hofburg. For several years now, the Falstaff publishing house has been organizing events that revolve around the finest wines, whiskeys, vodkas, and liqueurs of the current year and try to bring lovers, restaurateurs, and professionals closer to fine cuisine. It is an exclusive event that took place on just one day, October 21, 2024. As part of this major event, the Hofburg was transformed into the largest cocktail bar in the world. Austria's best bartenders were available to the public with their unique cocktail creations and first-class spirits. Aperol Spritz and Leberkäse to welcome visitors At the entrance, an elegant, bright, comfortably designed Aperol Spritz stand with comfortable standing and seating options greeted visitors. This made for a good start, as it is considered a real cult drink in Italy, for example. A digital tasting book gave visitors a good overview of the Falstaff Bar & Spirits Festival. Leberkäse-Pepi, who is known to most Viennese people for his tasty Leberkas variations, was represented in the Hofburg with four of his most famous delicacies. Somehow logical, because the "Leberkas-Semmel" is something like the unofficial national dish of Vienna. The company is known for GMO-free and sustainable agriculture in Upper Austria. The meat comes 100 percent from Austria, bears the AMA seal of quality and is free of flavor enhancers and

To all James Bond fans: From September 7, 2024 to January 5, 2025, you can see the brilliant James Bond exhibition. I personally had the privilege of toasting with the celebrities in gala attire at the VIP opening on September 4, 2024. Guests of honor at this event included Bond Girl actresses Maryam d'Abo ("The Living Daylights") and Caterina Murino ("Casino Royale"), director Marvin Kren and Oscar winner Chris Corbould OBE, who is responsible for the special effects in fifteen 007 films. As soon as I entered the event, I felt like I was on the red carpet. The ambience: A hall in the Metastadt Vienna with a beautifully designed entrance, lounge music and lots of photographers. Every VIP guest was photographed and welcomed with fabulous champagne. The atmosphere was spectacular. The evening's moderator wore a skin-tight, beautiful red evening dress and curiously introduced the guests to the evening. Premiere of “Pension Schöller”: A celebration of comedy and creativity

On October 10, 2024, the comedy "Pension Schöller" celebrated its eagerly awaited premiere in the festively decorated hall of the "Bruno" in Brunn am Gebirge. The production, directed by Nici Neiss, captivated the audience from the first minute and proved to be a complete success. Marcus Strahl, artistic director of the Neue Bühne Wien, had two reasons to celebrate that evening: just two days earlier, he had been awarded the Golden Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria. The premiere of "Pension Schöller" was not only a significant moment for Strahl, but also for the entire theater community. With an ensemble consisting of talented actors such as Stephan Paryla-Raky, Anna Sophie Krenn, and Eva Binder, the crazy comedy of errors became a real firework of wit and charm. Humor and joy of playing on stage Nici Neiss' brilliant production impressed with its humorous and dynamic narrative style. "Pension Schöller" addresses the question of what it means to be "normal" and brings a variety of quirky characters to the stage. These characters, from an eccentric poet to an angry major, provide a colorful mix and unpredictable situations that keep the audience laughing. The acting performances were consistently excellent and contributed significantly to the evening's appeal. Stephan Paryla-Raky deserves special mention in the role of Uncle Ladislaus, whose confusions provided the most amusing moments. The actors not only harmonized well with each other, but also created a stage setting full of energy and joy of playing, which made the performance an unforgettable experience.

AUA-Trestl to China Eastern: “If competition, then with equal opportunities”

It was recently announced that China Eastern Airlines had not received traffic rights from the Republic of Austria for the planned route between Shanghai and Vienna. Austrian Airlines is said to have intervened, according to some media reports. AUA obviously does not want to face competition, because the Chinese airline - unlike Austrian Airlines - is allowed to use Russian airspace and thus benefits from significantly shorter flight routes. This has a positive effect on operating costs. This is precisely what Austrian Airlines seems to have a problem with and wants to be protected by the Austrian federal government. The result: China Eastern Airlines has not received traffic rights - at least for the time being. When asked, AUA Chief Commercial Officer Michael Trestl said that business in China was currently not going according to expectations. Fewer business travelers and tourists were flying to the Middle Kingdom and significantly fewer Chinese tourists were coming to Europe. He admits that the inability to use Russian airspace is having a negative effect on Austrian Airlines, as it has to fly longer flight routes and therefore has higher costs. “If there is competition, then it should be on equal terms,” was the only comment on the question of why Austrian Airlines intervened with the Ministry of Transport to such an extent that China Eastern Airlines was provisionally denied route rights.

Klagenfurt's hotspot: Villa Lido on Lake Wörthersee

After numerous stays and frequent walks past the Villa Lido, I allowed myself to try this restaurant today. It was a pleasant Thursday with a temperature of around 26 degrees - the best conditions for trying an Italian restaurant. The menu is easy to find online on their website www.villa-lido.at. It varies from Italian and Mediterranean to European cuisine. In reviews, the restaurant receives 4 and 4,5 out of 5 points for the kitchen and furnishings. I have personally seen the restaurant three times in the last 10 years and can hardly see any positive development in its image. It remains nice and clean, the outside furnishings could use a breath of fresh air. The interior of the restaurant is rather old-fashioned, a bit dated, but very nice and elegant. The service and quality only achieve 3,5 out of 5 points. First, our reservation for a table by the lake was lost. Fortunately, there was hardly anything going on, but if the opposite had happened, we would have had to wait for a table to become available and that can take an extremely long time towards the weekend. Does something like this have to happen in 2024 despite having a reservation? The waitress hurried us through the selection of drinks with her stressed posture and pointed out the wasp problem. If this problem is already being discussed in the media, such a well-known restaurant should take precautionary measures for its guests. After the drinks were served, several wasps came immediately and I, as a customer, had to get a beer mat to cover my glass.

JP Pancakes: The Time-Out Pancake Kidnapping in Vienna

Small but nice: A new Japanese restaurant has been waiting in the heart of the Austrian capital Vienna since mid-June 2024. If you want to treat yourself to a culinary break during the week, you can treat yourself to a "Japanese vacation" in this "oasis" for a few hours. We are talking about "JP Pancakes" at Drahtgasse 2, 1010 Vienna. The souffle pancakes, the highlights of the restaurant, are prepared within sight of the guests and can be personalized as desired. The pink ambience and the cherry blossom trees let you forget the outside world. Vegetarians also get their money's worth, because the Japanese restaurant also scores with an extensive meat-free selection. As a lactose and gluten-free gourmet, you will feel at home. The menu seems well thought out. Both drinks and food are served to guests as unique works of art. Just looking at the dishes makes you plan your next visit with great enthusiasm. Whether you choose avocado or salmon or halloumi bagel, you can't go wrong. The food and drinks are very generously sized in terms of portion size. JP Pancakes is fairly priced: for example, a "Nordic Delight Omlette" (salmon, vegetables, hollandaise sauce and rocket) costs 0 euros. From homemade lemonade and detox water to sparkling wine and prosecco, all drinks are served with visually appealing decorations. If you want to treat yourself to a strawberry or tiramisu latte with almond, oat or cow's milk, this is the place for you. Every coffee lover will be extremely satisfied with their choice of drink. All allergens are clearly labelled on the menu using letters and
