Air travel is currently not very popular anyway, but during the autumn break in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the employees of the ground handling service provider AHS are now called to go on warning strikes. According to the Verdi union, they will take place at Düsseldorf and Cologne / Bonn airports.

This could make delays and flight cancellations very likely, even though the offer is already very thin in direct comparison with the previous year. It is unclear whether the threat of strike could have a negative impact on the current low demand.

Verdi is making serious allegations against AHS, claiming that the wage increase agreed in January of this year will be withheld. However, the collective agreement was never signed by the ground handling company, as the union has to admit. As a result, there was no increase in salaries. Verdi states that due to the lack of salary increases and short-time work, the actual earnings should only be around 500 to 600 euros per month. Attempts to reach an agreement had been rejected by the management.

Opposite the portal airliners.de AHS speaks of the fact that it would be illegal warning strikes, because a peace obligation was agreed with the Verdi federal executive committee. It would also have been agreed that the wage agreement will only be implemented after the corona crisis. They stand by this and have offered implementation on April 1, 2021. However, this is said to have been rejected by the union. Now AHS has rejected negotiations on implementation due to the broken peace obligation.
