Lithuanian airline Avion Express has established a subsidiary in Brazil. This is to be launched under its own AOC in the fourth quarter of 2023, but no later than early 2024, and will also specialize in ACMI and charter services.
Avion Epxress currently has flight operations in Lithuania and Malta. These each have their own approvals and are therefore – at least formally – independent airlines. This year, the Malta offshoot is again in service on behalf of Eurowings on various routes from Germany. In Europe, they specialize in ACMI and charter services because they don't offer scheduled flights on their own account. It is also selectively active in the field of air freight.
That's exactly what they want to do in Brazil, because Avion Express Brasil is supposed to take off for other airlines and tour operators. They also have big plans, because company boss Darius Kajokas can also imagine that Airbus A321F cargo planes can be operated on the Brazilian AOC. At the moment, cargo plays a rather subordinate role, but that should change in general. The manager also announces that a “double-digit number of narrowbodies” will be operated in Brazil. An exact number was not given, but this is not exactly unusual for ACMI and charter providers, because occasionally additional machines are organized on the used market in order to be able to serve orders that could also be landed.
The Avion Express Group fleet currently consists of 44 aircraft. Of these, 34 are operated by the Maltese subsidiary and ten by the Lithuanian parent company. "Our goal is to grow steadily but solidly and expand the fleet of Avion Express Brasil to a double-digit number of aircraft within the first two years of operation," says Kajokas.
