The Austrian railway company Westbahn is offering uncomplicated replacement transport to passengers affected by the rail strike called by the GDL union. The company emphasizes that it is not affected by the strike and will therefore operate as planned.

Between January 24th and January 29th, 2024, the GDL union is calling on the train drivers of Deutsche Bahn AG to go on strike. As a result, numerous connections – including cross-border traffic – will be canceled. The Westbahn trains to and from Munich and Rosenheim as well as via the Deutsche Eck to Tyrol and Vorarlberg will run as scheduled.

“Westbahn offers an unbureaucratic solution for travelers who are affected by the restrictions at Deutsche Bahn. By presenting a valid DB/ÖBB ticket for long-distance trains, passengers can travel free of charge between Munich Central Station and Salzburg Central Station. The Germany and Bayern tickets are excluded from this. Travelers can travel on Westbahn trains to/from Vienna Westbahnhof for an additional charge of €50 (or €25 to/from Linz). “There are 5 trains in each direction every day between Munich and Vienna Westbahnhof,” said the private railway operator.

The following Germany connections are offered:

Munich Central Station – Vienna West Station:

  • 959: Munich Hbf (from 07:49 a.m.) – Vienna Westbahnhof (at 11:52 a.m.)
