Basel Airport had to be closed for around two hours on Sunday. The cause was an abandoned piece of luggage that was not picked up by the owner despite repeated announcements. So the police stepped in.

For safety reasons, the executive ordered the terminal to be evacuated. The handling was also stopped as a precaution. Fortunately, the all-clear could be given after about two hours. Flight operations were then resumed.

As a result of this incident, some considerable delays have occurred at Basel-Mulhouse Airport. Both the French and the Swiss side of the airport were affected. The airline Easyjet, among others, informed its passengers via SMS that access to the terminal was temporarily not possible due to the security-related process.
